Grobert romantic guitar

This is a copy of a guitar by Jean-Nicolas Grobert around 1830. This was made as a commission in 2023.

The original guitar has signatures of Paganini and Berlioz on the soundboard, and the customer asked for these to be reproduced. The guitar was loaned to Paganini by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume in 1838 and later given by Vuillaume to Berlioz. The guitar now resides in the Museum Cité de la Musique in Paris, who make detailed plans for the guitar available. The soundboard is some very old European spruce I had in stock, and the back and sides are Bolivian rosewood. The back is laminated as the original guitar, but the sides are solid. The neck is cedrela veneered with ebony, and the heel and head are stained maple. The fingerboard is flush with the soundboard, with metal frets used, frets 10 to 18 being inlaid in ebony. The pegs are geared Wittners.
